Quickstart

The fastest path from sign-up to a plan your coding agent can act on — five steps, under ten minutes.

Get from zero to an agent-ready plan in under ten minutes.

1. Sign in and create a workspace

Go to penling.app, enter your email, and follow the sign-in link. When prompted, name your workspace and continue.

2. Create an initiative

Click New initiative from the dashboard. Name it anything — you can rename it later.

3. Paste a brief

Write or paste a short description of what you're building. Three to five sentences is enough. Include what you're building, why, and at least one thing that's out of scope.

4. Review the focus areas

Penling will extract a set of suggested focus areas from your brief. Read each one and accept, edit, or delete. Add any that are missing.

Aim for 3–8 focus areas. If you have more, consider whether some should be a separate initiative. There are no rules or limits. It your project, define it however you like.

5. Generate and publish the plan

Click Generate plan. Review the phases. When you're ready, click Publish to send the plan to your coding agent.

That's it. Your agent now has a structured, prioritised plan to work from. As it builds, raise clarifications in Penling to keep the spec current.
